Canyon de Chelly
If we had to recommend one stop in northern Arizona for
vacationers, it would be Canyon de Chelly (pronounced da shay). This peaceful canyon has been called home by people for over 2,000 years. The steep rock walls enclose
a rich, green floor that is a living example of the Navajo's working relationship with the land.
Driving along the rim of Canyons de Chelly and del Muerto are a great way to sightsee if your time is limited. Trips into the interior require an authorized guide, except for a hike to
White House Ruins. Organized tours are available at Thunderbird Lodge, and camping is available year round on a first-come, first-served basis.
Lodging is in nearby Chinle, AZ.
