WHERE TO START?

Lake Mead is America's first national recreation area. Located in the Mohave Desert, the reservoir covers about 247 square miles.  It extends from Hoover Dam some 110 miles toward the Grand Canyon, creating a lake in Nevada and Arizona.

The area is part of the National Park Service, so everything inside the National Recreation Area boundary is ultimately under the control of the federal government.

Inside the park, NPS grants contracts to specific businesses to operate concessions.

Echo Bay -- This marina lies near the old confluence of the Virgin and Colorado Rivers, where Major John Wesley Powell ended his historic 1869 exploration.

Echo Bay lies outside of the Valley of Fire State Park and features houseboat and powerboat rentals, lodge, RV park, marina store, lodge and restaurant.  It is about 70 miles from Las Vegas.

This marina is ideal for extended stays, houseboat vacations and family reunions.

Lake Mead Marina -- This is a much better option for day trips as Lake Mead Resort is only about 30 miles from Las Vegas.  The marina offers full resort facilities including lodging, restaurant and lounge. The complete marina offers rentals of ski boats, fishing boats, patio boats and personal watercraft, plus a grocery store/tackle and bait shop.

Temple Bar Marina -- With rentals of patio boats, ski boats, fishing boats and personal watercraft, a lodge and marina store, Temple Bar Marina is great for longer stays.  It's also known as the place for waterskiing, and located on east Lake Mead.
